Year 7 Haven High student, Tyler, aged 11, has recently won his latest Taekwondo fight, despite having Holt Oram Syndrome and has met with The Mayor of Boston, Cllr Anton Dani and fellow councillors.
Aiming to be a Paralympian in the future, Tyler is the only one of his age in the country in competitions, therefore had to fight with able bodied peers, however despite this, Tyler made it to the quarter finals out of 20 able body competitors.
In the Dutch masters in May, Tyler, his dad and coach travelled to Holland and won gold in both fighting (able body rules again) and poomsae, where he had to perform 2 patterns and impressed a panel of judges.
Training through Pilgrim Taekwondo, Tyler regularly attends competitions around the country taking part in championships.
Speaking to councillor’s, Tyler said: “My favourite part is being able to let your anger out through fighting”.
The Mayor of Boston, Cllr Anton Dani said: “What a fantastic young boy Tyler is. He’s committed and passionate about his involvement with Taekwondo, and doesn’t let anything get in his way. I was honoured to be shown some moves by him, and can’t wait to support him further and watch his journey develop through the years”
Leader of Boston Borough Council, Cllr Aaron Spencer, said: “Tyler’s enthusiasm and dedication to his Taekwondo is truly inspirational, and it’s a true pleasure to have such a role model within the town.
“I’m looking forward to seeing Tyler progress with his passion, and achieve more. I was shocked to find out that he also has a pacemaker fitted, but doesn’t let that stop his ability to compete in the sport.
“I’m delighted that we can offer Tyler the facility to train, at our leisure complex, and offer him extended education with complimentary access to the swimming facilities. My thanks goes to Dan and the staff at Geoff Moulder, who have helped Tyler and Pilgrim Taekwondo with their journey.”
