Age UK Lincoln & South Lincolnshire have been working as a local independent charity for over 61 years locally. Currently supporting over 4000 older people a week in Lincoln and South
Lincolnshire with an array of vital support services.
Following on from the huge success of their Food Through Adversity project they are now launching their latest project “Vitals for Veterans” Funding has been awarded from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund, with the addition of donations from, local councillors, local businesses and the support of an incredible team of volunteers, they will aim to deliver 1800 packs free of charge, to veterans in need of some support across Lincoln and South Lincolnshire between now and November.
The packs will contain essential items such as tea, toilet roll, hand soap, biscuits, and other food items as well as a few pick me up items such as forget me not seeds, deigned to brighten a veterans day and show them that they will never be forgotten.
The referrals have already started to come in; one last week made by the daughter of a 103 year old army veteran with a great story to share.
“As a veteran myself I am extremely proud to have launched this project and for it to be supported by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund. Veterans should not be forgotten and we are delighted to be able to offer these free wellbeing packs, which we hope to spread far and wide across Lincoln and South Lincolnshire.
The recent pandemic has highlighted what it feels like to be lonely and isolated. For many older people this was their reality before and during Covid-19 and it will continue to be so afterwards. The focus of this project is on delivering a pack for the veterans in our area and perhaps also helping to tackle loneliness, through interaction with the volunteers who will deliver the packages and raise awareness of our charity and the service we can offer”
