A new town centre venue that is available to everyone has been launched in Boston.
The Local Community Centre on Mitre Lane is housed in the building which was previously known as Pensioner House and can now be hired by any group or individual.
A group of about 30 people attended the official opening to watch the Mayor of Boston, Cllr Anton Dani snip the tape and declare the venue officially open.
He said: “I am so pleased that this building is back in use for everyone. Its location right in the centre of town and with car parking nearby makes it absolutely ideal.”
Stuart Davidson is chairman of the trustees who run the centre and he explained that as the building had been empty for more than a year a facelift has taken place which has resulted in making it a great place for meetings, events and gatherings of all types.
“The main hall – the Mayflower Suite – can accommodate up to 150 people and there is a smaller committee room – the Pilgrim Room – which is ideal for meetings. We have decided to set the rent very competitively with the larger room costing £12.50 an hour and the smaller area £7 an hour. The building also has a kitchen suitable for preparing drinks and light refreshments and toilet facilities which are suitable for people with a disability,” said Stuart.
“Our regular opening hours will be from 9am until 5pm each day although an extension until 10pm may be possible if booked well in advance.
“We have already got regular bookings from groups including the Butterfly Hospice, the Lincolnshire Sensory Service and Age UK, but we have still got space available and people can find out more on our Facebook page or by calling 07392014058,” he added.
