Boston Borough Council’s decision to turn off commenting

Boston Borough Council has taken the decision to turn off commenting on some Facebook posts.  We have built significant audiences on this platform over the years and this is a vital way to reach our residents with key messages and we believe in serving content to people of our community is crucial and we will continue to do this.

However, in recent months conversations have degraded in both tone and content, and comments have become unnecessarily unpleasant and often personal. Whilst we support healthy debate, in recent months we have seen comments directed at our officers who are working hard to serve this borough. Such comments don’t just impact them personally, but also impact their family and friends and this isn’t acceptable. This is why we believe a break is sensible and we hope to reintroduce this function in a few months’ time.
