A major Covid-19 testing programme has gone live in Boston Borough today for people without symptoms of the virus and all residents over the age of 16 are encouraged to do their bit and take a test to help drive down the infection rate in the Borough.
Around one in three people who are infected with Covid-19 have no symptoms so could be spreading the disease without knowing it. Broadening testing to identify those showing no symptoms will mean finding positive cases more quickly and breaking chains of transmission.
Testing is taking place at the following locations:
- Peter Paine Performance Centre, Rosebery Avenue, Boston PE21 7QR
- Tollfield Campus Haven High, Tollfield Road, Boston PE21 9PN
Testing is available between 8am and 8pm with no booking necessary. The sites will remain operational 7 days a week until Sunday, February 14, 2021.
The test used provides an indication as to whether you have the virus in around one hour.
Those testing positive will be required to have a full Covid-19 test.
Health professionals will be on site to assist.
The testing of people without symptoms will help provide a more accurate picture of cases in the Boston Borough and will help prevent people from spreading it to their loved ones and people they work with.
Those who have symptoms of Covid-19 are to continue booking a test in the usual way by calling 119 or visiting www.gov.uk/get-coronavirus-test
Alison Fairman, resident of Boston borough was first on site this morning at the Tollfield Campus Haven High for her test, she said: “It is easy and well worth doing, it gives you piece of mind and knowing that you can nip to the supermarket for that essential shop and not be putting others in danger is so reassuring.
“I urge everyone who is eligible to go and get tested. Let’s get this town back to the way we all know and love it.”
