Workers from Princebuild have been busy laying the base and preparing the shuttering for the plinth for the oak-carved fishermen’s tribute near St Botolph’s footbridge.

Five carved oak panels will be assembled on the concrete-and-steel plinth as a lasting tribute to Boston’s lost fishermen.

Boston and South Holland Wood Carvers have carved the tribute and it is expected to be unveiled sometime next month (September). The tribute will stand nine feet tall.

The panels have been carved with Boston fishing industry imagery such as a trawler on the waves, an anchor, ship’s wheel, lifebuoy, seagulls, fish, sea shells, crab and starfish. A supporting and connecting galvanised metal framework has been constructed by DS Engineering on the Riverside Industrial Estate in Boston. It will include a finial with rope work and fishing net in metal at its peak.
