Bulky waste collections in the Borough of Boston is a paid for service but for a trial period of one month the council plan to scrap the fee to all residents in the plans to help tackle fly-tipping in the borough.
Councillor Deborah Evans, new Portfolio Holder for Waste has recommended allowing households to have one free collection by the council of up to three items. These free collections are to take place from Monday 6th September 2021 for one month.
Fly-tipping costs the council tax payers thousands of pounds each month and since the start of the Covid pandemic we saw increases of more than 143% of fly-tipping in our borough.
Deborah said “I hope by making it easier to get rid of those awkward bulky items for our Boston residents, it will in turn, cut down on the amount of bulky waste that is fly-tipped and ruining our beautiful area.”
Bulky waste collections currently take place on an area system from Tuesday to Thursday collecting booked and paid for items of collection, this service will for the trial period cover five days a week, Monday to Friday and will still be a bookable service by calling 01205 314200 (once bookings are at capacity for this free period, no more bookings will be taken.)
Please note we CANNOT collect building materials, asbestos, hazardous waste, medical waste and garden waste items such as sheds, fences and grass and tree cuttings.
Please note that we are not insured to collect items from the inside of properties. For this reason we ask that all items for collection should be placed at the front of the property the night before or by 5.30am on the day of collection.
