Want to be part of a ground-breaking art installation which will help hammer home the message about plastics pollution?

Join artist Laura Mabbutt at the Geoff Moulder Leisure Complex anytime from 10am to 3pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, June 10,11 and 12, to help construct a sculpture made entirely out of plastics litter collected from the borough’s streets.

If you want to lend a hand please contact Jen Moore on 01205 314200 or email her at jenny.moore@boston.gov.uk giving an indication of when you can come and for how long. Jen would also like to hear from any schools or youth groups which want to be involved. Or you can just turn up on any of the three days.

The litter has been washed and Laura wants help to finish the giant structure she has already started. It will be a figure of a human standing on a plastic Earth measuring around ten feet tall.

The plastic was  collected by children taking part in the annual Big Schools Clean Up, and then by the hundreds of volunteers who took part in this year’s Big Boston Clean Up. Almost 100 large plastic bin liners were filled with plastics alone.
Laura’s research has revealed that we produce one plastic person for every person on Earth every year – a staggering 400,000,000 tonnes. So her sculpture will reinforce the message that plastics pollution is overwhelming the planet. The sculpture will be displayed at this year’s Lincolnshire Show as part of an exhibit by the Lincolnshire Waste Partnership and then go on public display in the borough.

Laura has been jointly commissioned by Transported, the Arts Council of England-funded Creative People and Places programme for Boston and South Holland to engage more people in the arts.
