Everything that Boston Borough Council does – from collecting your rubbish to promoting economic development – is guided by a plan. It’s called the Corporate Plan and lays out what the council’s biggest priorities are. It’s due a refresh and the council is asking for your help to guide it.

The borough council is responsible for collecting your council tax (most of this goes to the county council, police, internal drainage boards and parish councils – the borough council keeps just 5.1p in every £ you pay) and uses this and its income from charges to provide refuse collections, leisure facilities, parks and play areas and their maintenance, housing allocations, planning, environmental health, CCTV, community safety, the crematorium, elections, licensing, markets and events.

Although the borough council can be an influence in some areas it does not have responsibility for main services such as social services, education, health, highways and crime – these are the responsibility of Lincolnshire County Council, the NHS and Lincolnshire Police.

It would help the borough council draw up its plan to guide future decisions if you could fill out our survey at https://www.snapsurveys.com/wh/s.asp?k=156708681773 by listing the below priorities in priority order.

  • I would like to see more highquality, skilled jobs available in the local area
  • I would like to see the vibrancy and the regeneration of the town centre improved
  • I would like to see more education and enforcement to improve littering, fly-tipping and other environmental crime
  • I would like to see action taken locally on the climate change/green agenda
  • I would like to see an increase in people feeling safe in and around Boston (we work in partnership with the Police on community safety but have limited powers to deal with crime itself)
  • I would like to see resources directed to developing tourism in the borough
  • I would like to see better standards of housing for people in the borough
  • I would like to see more support for businesses to develop and grow

The council would also like to hear any other suggestions you have to make about how it could, within its powers, help make Boston borough a better place to live, work, visit, shop and do business in.
