The Healthier Options Award aims to increase healthier food and drink choices when eating out in Lincolnshire. The initiative is being delivered jointly by Lincolnshire County Council Public Health and the District Councils’ Environmental Health teams to assist small and medium-sized food outlets, including takeaways, restaurants, coffee shops, mobile traders, leisure centres and canteens to be able to offer healthier alternatives.

The scheme is free to join and aims to help local businesses, with a food hygiene rating of three or above, to make healthier changes to their menu and food preparation in return for the award and associated publicity. The scheme is not intended to be overly onerous and it might be that your organisation already has a number of things in place to help provide healthier alternatives which can be used towards the evidence. It could be as simple as reducing the number of holes in your salt pots to completely revamping your menu.

By working with the Healthier Options team other businesses have been shown to:

  • Save money
  • Increase their footfall by attracting new customers
  • Promote good health to their customers
  • Benefit from additional advertisement by being added to the list of Healthier Options members on the website

More information about the scheme, including an information leaflet, tip sheets and pledge form can be found by visiting Healthier Options Lincolnshire. Alternatively to discuss the initiative further or to get involved please contact HealthierOptions@lincolnshire.gov.uk.
