May 2 election: Advice for voters

Parish council elections are on Thursday, May 2, but residents in your parishes will only be able to vote if their names are on the electoral register.

They can make sure their name has been included on the current Electoral Register by asking at reception in Municipal Buildings in West Street, Boston, or by calling the Elections Helpline on 01205 314220 / 314221 and the staff will be pleased to help.  You can also e-mail elreg@boston.gov.uk

If their name is not shown on the register, they can apply to have it added under the rolling registration system. The last day for receipt of applications to be eligible to vote in these elections is Friday, April 12, 2019.  If moving house before April 12 they should contact the elections office on the above number, to ensure they keep their vote.

If they have moved house since October 2018, they could still be shown on the register at their previous address if they have not re-registered.  They can by contacting the elections office to make sure they can vote for the parish in which they now live.

If they are unable to vote in person on May 2, or would prefer to vote by post, they should contact the elections office on the above number, or email, for a postal or proxy voting application form. A postal vote is where a ballot paper is sent by post for them to complete and post back, and anyone can apply for this service.  A proxy vote enables them to nominate a person to vote on their behalf, but there are only certain circumstances that allow a proxy vote to be issued. Contact the elections office for full details and an application form. The last date for receipt of postal vote applications is Monday, April 15, 2019, at 5pm and the last date for proxy applications is Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at 5pm.
