Princess Anne, patron of the Boston Stump Restoration Trust at St Botolph’s Church (The Stump), is pictured yesterday (Monday) meeting Mayor of Boston Judith Skinner.
The regular royal visitor to the Stump launched The Guild of St Botolph’s – a new initiative to support the ambitions of the appeal through friends, associates, members, fellows or benefactors.
The £2.7 million Passion for People project is National Lottery supported to transform the iconic church into a centre of cultural learning, heritage interpretation, all-age people development, musical excellence and community integration. It will increase visitor numbers, engage tourists and promote Boston’s heritage overseas.
The west face of the tower is currently shrouded in scaffolding to facilitate repairs. Other works will include repairs to the tower roof, repair and development of the pews, underfloor heating and construction of draft proof, flood resistant and accessible porches on the north and south doors.
An educational interpretation and activity scheme will also be created.
