Restart Grant

To support the recovery of the high street as COVID-19 trading restrictions are relaxed, the Government has introduced the one-off payment ‘Restart Grant’ for certain rate-paying businesses only. This is a new type of business support grant and it replaces the Local Restrictions Support Grant (CA/C) from 1st April 2021.  NOTE: Restart Grant is only available to qualifying (rated) non-essential retail, hospitality, accommodation, leisure, personal care and gym/sport businesses.

We have already paid out Restart Grants automatically to the vast majority of ratepayers in our area that we know qualify for it.  Therefore, you only need to complete and submit an Application Form if you have not yet received your Restart Grant payment into your bank account that has been used for receiving previous types of business support grant payments.

We encourage all business ratepayers to read this Guidance to understand their potential eligibility. Please note that the closing date for applications under this scheme is 30th June 2021.

On a cautionary note, to avoid Restart Grant recipients having to repay this money, they will need to provide certain information in response to any information requests that we may send them as part of our post-payment checks and assurance work.

Under Strand One, the Restart Grant will support non-essential retail premises with one-off grants of up to £6,000. The following thresholds apply for these businesses:
