Parents and guardians of 5-11 year-olds across Lincolnshire are being reminded that it’s now time to bring them back for their second covid vaccination.

Many 5-11 year-olds in Lincolnshire will have had their first dose of the covid vaccination around 12 weeks ago, either at a pop-up vaccination session or at one of the county’s vaccination sites, and they can now have their second dose.

“The vaccines are safe and effective, and we are offering children aged 5-11, as well as those aged 12-15, two doses to give them the best protection against covid-19,” explains Rebecca Neno, Director of Covid and Influenza Vaccination Programmes, NHS Lincolnshire ICB.

Covid-19 is usually mild in most children, but it can make some unwell.  One dose of the vaccine gives good protection, but two doses enhances this protection and makes it longer-lasting.

“Many of us have had the experience of looking after a poorly child with covid and like many diseases, covid can spread quickly in an environment like school.  Just as with any other age, vaccinating your 5-11 year-old is about stopping them from getting seriously ill, and having two doses will give stronger protection,” adds Rebecca.

Most 5-11 year-olds can get their second dose from 12 weeks after their first dose, the exception being if your child has a condition that means they’re at high risk from covid-19 or they live with someone who has a weakened immune system – if this is the case they can get their second dose from 8 weeks after their first.

In addition, if your child is aged 5 or over and had a severely weakened immune system when they had their first two doses, they can get an additional third primary dose of the vaccine.

“In Lincolnshire we’re continuing to run pop-up vaccination sessions every week, which allow people to come along – without an appointment – and get their covid vaccination and some of these sessions are vaccinating 5-11 year-olds (see list below) and 12-15/12-17 year-olds.

“As well as this, our Mass Vaccination Centre at PRSA, Boston, is offering walk-ins for 5-11s and 12-17 year-olds (see list below) that don’t require an appointment.  The best way to find out where the nearest walk-in session to you is, is by looking at the list on our website www.lincolnshire.icb.nhs.uk/grabajab which we update every week,” explains Rebecca.

The walk-in sessions for 5-11 year-olds and 12-17 year-olds at PRSA Mass Vaccination Centre, Boston, are scheduled as follows:
