The East Midlands Railway ‘adopt a station’ scheme are looking for volunteers in the local community. Being a volunteer involves tasks such as gardening, landscaping, painting, litter picking and reporting faults or vandalism with support from a local station management team. ‘Station adopters’ will be provided with a travel pass if they need to travel between their home station and adoption station. They will also receive benefits such as four leisure tickets through the year, for them and a friend and invitations to various events including an annual meeting for all ‘Station adopters’ across the network. Many train stations are now unstaffed and there isn’t the opportunity for station employees to visit them as much as they would like. Therefore this is a chance for the local community to get involved and support the local train stations to help in making them welcoming, clean and well maintained.
